Overview

Status Mainnet

Espresso Network is a decentralized confirmation layer designed to bring shared sequencing and fast pre-confirmations to rollups across the modular blockchain stack. Built to solve one of the core problems of the rollup era, Espresso enables multiple rollups to share a single, decentralized sequencer — eliminating the trust assumptions and centralization risks of single-operator sequencers.

At its core, Espresso runs a BFT-based consensus protocol (HotShot) that provides rollups with fast, credible commitments to transaction ordering — before settlement on Ethereum. This means applications can deliver near-instant user-facing confirmations without waiting for L1 finality, while still inheriting Ethereum's security guarantees.

Simply put, Espresso is what the modular stack has been missing: a credibly neutral, decentralized layer that coordinates rollup sequencing and makes cross-rollup composability viable at scale.
